Leon Trakman wrote a book on the Law Merchant some years ago. I think that I reviewed it but can’t find my review.

I have set my students an exam question on the possibility of using an unlocalized law, i.e., a law merchant, rather than a localized law.

This is a huge field but a recent - and excellent - work on the practices of commercial parties and their impact upon the common law is Ross Cranston, Making Commercial Law Through Practice 1830-1970 (CUP 2021).
